Subex Systems will acquire Alcatel's Fraud Management Group, expanding its presence in Europe and adding nearly 25 new customers to its clientele list of 39 companies as part of a $3 million agreement. After the acquisition, Subex will merge Alcatel's Fraud Management tool with its own Ranger product. Alcatel will partner with Subex to exclusively provide Subex's fraud management and revenue assurance products as part of its revenue management offering for its existing and future telecommunications company customers. Subex will retain some of Alcatel's Fraud Management Group employees, relocating them to a new facility, expected to open in London in August or September 2004. The office will provide sales and support mainly for Europe.
The MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance and the ATM Forum announced plans to merge to create one industry association to support the use of multiple-technology, packet-based networks. The joint industry group is expected to benefit the industry by creating one organization to facilitate implementation agreements versus disparate decisions related to development of combined ATM and MPLS technology. Organization members must approve the merger by the end of Q3, and completion of the union is expected by the end of the year. The merger will bring together more than 100 companies, including service providers, equipment vendors, software suppliers and enterprise customers.
Openwave Systems Inc. announced the completion of its acquisition of Magic4, a messaging software provider. Openwave plans to integrate Magic4 into its client software operation targeting the mass mobile phone market. Openwave completed its acquisition of all outstanding shares of Magic4 for a total purchase price of approximately $82.6 million.
