Don’t reinvent the wheel. That might be BT’s motto as it uses TM Forum’s upcoming MTOSI 2.0 release to cut costs.
Using MTOSI 1.0, the company was able to cut management systems integration costs by as much as 90 percent. BT believes it can manage its network resources and services even more easily with the new version of the interface model. It’s expected to shorten development lifecycles, lowering expenses.
The underlying goal of MTOSI is to reduce capital and operational expenses, according to TM Forum. It’s specifically designed to manage multiple vendors in a network. BT has been able to bring three of its main vendors together using MTOSI. They include OSS vendor HP, and equipment vendors Huawei and Fujitsu.
Meantime, BT says it will be important to get vendors to productize standards. The company believes standard adoption will encourage service providers to better manage things such as inventory, activation and assurance. It may get some resistance, but BT thinks service providers will look closely at how MTOSI cuts integration costs.
