Cisco, Avaya Sued By Visual Voicemail Patent Holder

Patent holder Klausner Technologies Inc. is suing Cisco Systems Inc. and Avaya Inc. for infringing on a visual voicemail patent.

Klausner Technologies also has suits pending against Yahoo Inc., Qwest Communications International Inc., Ribbit, SpinVox and ooma. The company last year settled with Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. over the very same issue.

This week, Klausner Technologies filed a claim against Cisco and Avaya in the eastern district of Texas, a court known for handling aggressive technology lawsuits. Judah Klausner owns 25 patents worldwide and his company says 24 companies are licensing his visual voicemail intellectual property. Just last week, Embarq Corp. signed an agreement with Klausner Technologies to license the visual voicemail technology.
