Bureau chiefs work closely with issues that affect telecom companies and their customers every day. From the methods and accuracy of billing to ensuring that consumers have all the information they need when they purchase telecommunications goods and services, Joel Gurin’s bureau has the consumer’s back. His bureau develops policies related to consumer affairs and facilitates public participation in the FCC's decision-making process. CGB also handles consumer inquiries and complaints, which are monitored closely when the FCC develops policy. His bureau is the driving force behind resolving the wireless bill shock issue. Gurin is also on a mission to help consumers understand what they are buying when they buy broadband. "Our biggest goal here is to establish a general framework that consumers can use to really understand what they are looking at when they go to buy Internet service," he said. "We want people to understand megabits per second as easily as miles per gallon."
