It probably comes as little surprise that December was a strong month for smartphone sales, with the holidays and all.

There was some extra intrigue last month as well: Could Windows Phone 8 devices like the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X make a run at Apple's iPhone? Would Samsung retain dominance over its Android competitors with the likes of the Galaxy S III and the Note II?
