AMS will lead the deployment of RCN’s new convergent billing and operations support system. RCN is a facilities-based provider of residential telecommunications services and the nation’s 7th largest Internet service provider. The new system will encompass a broad range of major application development areas and will support local and long-distance, cable television and Web services. RCN believes the new system will help it rapidly introduce new products and services, and enhance customer care and other efforts.
AMS will oversee the installation and integration for ordering, provisioning, usage collection, mediation, billing and customer care, including Web self-care. AMS has subcontracted with Beechwood to integrate applications for trouble management, workforce management, interconnection and service activation. Meanwhile, RCN in February hired Kenan Systems Corp. to handle its IP billing. RCN will use Kenan’s Arbor/Internet to process an expanding customer base. RCN recently acquired several ISPs, including Erol’s, UltraNet Communications, JavaNet and Interport.
