In its third report on high-speed and advanced telecom services as mandated by Congress, the FCC says the market and availability of these services is growing, as is investment in supporting infrastructure. The report shows service subscriptions went up 36 percent to 9.6 million during the first half of 2001, and 250 percent since the last report 18 months ago. Approximately 7.8 million of these subscribers are residential or small business customers, which is up from 5.2 million during the first half of 2001. The number of ADSL lines rose 36 percent to 2.7 million, while broadband service over coaxial cable jumped 45 percent to 5.2 million lines.
