Telekom Malaysia, the leading telecommunications provider in Malaysia, has implemented a new pre-integrated operational support system solution from Clarity. The unified OSS solution has been deployed to easily manage Telekom Malaysia’s logical and physical network infrastructure. By moving away from four legacy inventory systems under the previous “silo” approach, says the telecommunications giant, Telekom Malaysia is benefiting from a clear network-wide view of assets across one system.
According to Telekom Malaysia, the migration to the new solution will take place in two phases. The first phase of the deployment has centralized engineering work flow processes and provisioning for IP, telephony, broadband and narrowband services. With the OSS solution, Telekom Malaysia will be in a better position to plan and monitor maintenance activities and outages. The implementation of the new solution has also helped centralize inventory systems for interconnect services, frame relay and ATM services, along with audit issues which are now resolved via one IP management system. Clarity’s solution has ensured end-to-end integrated workflow between order management and inventory for all existing systems.
Telekom Malaysia’s wholesale infrastructure will migrate to Clarity later this year, when the second phase of this implementation is expected to be finalized. This will enable the company to move all remaining data and interconnect services onto a single inventory system, a process that is expected to retire a further six internal systems.
“Deployment of Clarity’s solution to date has been very successful and our phased approach has allowed for a more concise and consolidated roll out,” says Abdul Latif Tokimin, vice president, network operations, Telekom Malaysia Wholesale. “Moving toward unified OSS has ensured we can rationalize and better manage our assets; with over 31 million kilometers of network, including 8.7 million exchange lines to track, the completion of the second phase of roll out will ensure that Clarity can help us monitor and utilize the network more efficiently.”
“Telekom Malaysia is one of Asia’s leading telecommunications providers and we have worked hard to ensure that their network migrated smoothly to our unified OSS solution,” says Raj Thangiah, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Clarity. “The decision to move toward unified OSS is a serious one; our system will drive continuous improvement of Telekom Malaysia’s inventory management processes, which are based on the industry standard Enhanced Telecommunications Operations Map (eTOM) and ensure this tier 1 telecommunications provider thrives on the ability to better manage and control their network.”
