Xohm WiMAX was supposed to be Sprint Nextel’s hot poster child for its foray into Internet-based services, but rumors continue to swirl that the WiMax operation unit might be spun off in the new year.
Despite that, Sprint Nextel kicked off its Application Developer Conference this week and boasted a WiMAX-chipset interoperability test. This week, Beceem Communications announced its 802.16e-2005 chipset is completed and that Xohm Mobile Broadban network and service will be ready to go in 2008. At the conference, Sprint noted commitments for WiMAX access from services to devices including connection cards, internet tablets, and ultramobile PCs.
Fox Interactive Media was also present at the conference to represent the MySpace, FOXSports.com, Photobucket, and IGN Entertainment properties.
