Communications Data Group has made it easier for wireless operators to identify usage eligible for Carrier Access Billing Systems (CABS). They have done so by developing an independent mediation module and an application that can identify originating Inter-MTA traffic.
The Champaign, Ill.-based billing solutions company created the new stand-alone mediation module to allow customization of business rules. It lets wireless carriers filter, edit and rate call detail records. The system includes process scheduling, event notification, and switch compatibility with traditional switches, multimedia switches, and Video on Demand servers, as well as data format compatibility.
Trent Anderson, CDG’s National Sales Manager called the product unconventional. “[It] gives service providers a critical tool to help them expand their offerings to meet increasing demand and to stem competition. [The] Mediation module ensures usage is collected effectively so that billing can be initiated and completed in a timely manner – an activity that drastically affects a telco’s bottom line,” he said.
CDG’s Wireless Access Billing Module application correctly identifies terminating inter-MTA wireless usage that is valid for CABS billing. Wireless usage records in which the local routing number fields have been populated are compared to MTA tables to determine the correct jurisdiction of the call. ILECs, CLECs, and wireless providers can generate additional revenue regardless of their current CABS arrangement by activating CDG’s MTA usage and audit process. By correctly identifying MTA usage and billing, CDG’s package reduces disputes and produces auditable records to help create a previously untapped revenue source.
Identifying inter-MTA usage that is eligible to be billed also can alleviate some phantom traffic issues.
