Tektronix Communications deployed a protocol analysis solution for effective and efficient development testing of femtocell access point elements.

Customers seeking to develop femtocell technologies can use the G35 protocol analyzer to provide simulation and emulation of key elements of their femtocell designs including UMTS core network interfaces over IP. For example, Iu-CS and Iu-PS allow for a significant reduction of both cost and footprint of their labs’ infrastructure as network elements can be effectively replaced by the test unit.

Femtocells, also known as personal base stations, have the potential to transform communications by making mobile devices the tools of choice, even in home settings. Tektronix’ G35 protocol analyzer provides a comprehensive platform for functional testing of a wide range of interfaces for femtocell and all the latest mobile technologies.

In the past 18 months, femtocell technology has developed into a ‘real world’ technology that will work with any existing GSM or UMTS device and provide seamless handovers for voice and data services from public mobile to femto networks inside buildings.

Tektronix’ G35 provides protocol simulation, emulation and monitoring in a single, cost-effective unit that has already enabled the successful evolution from 2G to 3G and now to next generation wireless standards such as LTE and Mobile WiMAX all around the world. The solution will meet network mobile equipment manufacturers and service providers’ needs for powerful simulation capabilities for their development test environment, including simulation of voice and video over IP in a single, cost-effective solution.
