LHS, a telecom billing and customer care systems provider, announced that Nextel Telecomunicações Ltda. (Nextel Brazil) has chosen its BSCS iX Release 2 customer care system for the rating and billing of its services. It also will use LHS’ NPX version of the product for provisioning.
The operator is the Brazilian affiliate of NII Holdings and offers telecommunication services throughout Brazil, primarily to business customers. LHS has run its billing processes since the late 1990s. The new contract will move the company's operation to BSCS iX Release 2. The new version will be implemented by LHS as the prime system integrator. The project has already begun and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2009.
Although it was an LHS customer, Nextel Telecomunicações evaluated several vendors. Dushyant Gandhi, chief technology officer and vice president of Nextel Telecomunicações Ltda. said his company chose LHS because its product was the best option to enhance the support of its growing business.
“In addition, this choice is consistent with that of other Nextel companies in Latin America, allowing us, for example, to utilize some of the features previously developed for our affiliates in Mexico and Peru. At the same time, the local support by LHS America headquarters located in Brazil was another key factor in favor of this decision,” he added.
The new contract strengthens the cooperation between LHS and the Nextel companies throughout Latin America. Wolfgang Kroh, Chairman of the Management Board of LHS Aktiengesellschaft, said, “With our engineering center in Sao Paulo we have a very strong support proposition for the Brazilian BSS market that will serve Nextel not only in Brazil but in surrounding nations as well.”
LHS has its headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, with main offices in Brazil, France, Malaysia, and the Unites Arab Emirates.
