OSS vendor Comptel Corp. announced Thursday that Algerian mobile operator Orascom Telecom Algérie (Djezzy) selected Comptel’s provisioning and activation solution, which will be used for service fulfillment for mobile services, including planned 3G services.

The deal follows announcements in 2007 of Comptel being chosen as preferred supplier by Orascom Telecom, and of the subsequent selection by Orascom joint venture Tunisiana.

After winning the second mobile license in Algeria in 2001, Djezzy began providing prepaid and postpaid voice, data and multimedia telecommunications services in February 2002. By May 2008 it reached 14 million subscribers and 63 percent market share in a three-player market. Algeria is a country with a population of approximately 33 million.

As is the case with many successful operators, Djezzy found its existing solution for provisioning and activating services needed to be upgraded to ensure performance levels commensurate with growing demand.

“We chose Comptel because the reliable delivery of services to our customers is one of our main focuses that will keep on being served through our strong investment policy in that domain,” said Tamer El Mahdy, CEO at Orascom Telecom Algérie.

Comptel Provisioning and Activation Solution automates the provisioning and activation processes. With a single interface, it covers workflow from service order to start of billing. Comptel has provided solutions to 280 customers with 500 million subscribers in 85 countries.
