JDSU (JDSU) today introduced the SmartClass Triple Play Services (TPS) test instrument. It’s an all-in-one handheld tool for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of IP video, VoIP, IP data and ADSL 1/2/2+ services.
JDSU says the SmartClass TPS performs highly complex tests, yet is easy-to-use, meets the challenges associated with mass broadband deployments, and can scale to future requirements as technology evolves.
Key features include triple-play services testing with Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) functionality, advanced IP video analysis, including the ability to test multiple HDTV streams, VoIP phone emulation, and a built-in USB Host 2.0 interface for easy file transfer.
"JDSU designed its SmartClass testers to address the full range of requirements for today's network installer," said Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "The SmartClass TPS is the latest addition to our portfolio of award-winning test and measurement solutions that help deliver the promise of IP services by providing easy-to-use tools for field technicians."
The SmartClass TPS offers advanced test applications including IPTV quality testing for broadcast and video-on-demand streams (including VMOS and MDI-MLR), the ability to assess VoIP packet stream quality using MOS and R-Factor as well as network delay analysis, IP Data Throughput Rate verification using FTP or HTTP tests, and the ability to test these services over an ADSL2+ or Ethernet 10/100 interface.
