NEC Corporation announced a joint solution with its recently acquired OSS partner, NetCracker Technologies, aimed at streamlining operations and optimizing operator’s investments in wireless broadband. The company also demonstrated new developments in its Identity Brokerage platform.

This joint solution between NEC and NetCracker is an example of how the companies plan to work together to enable service providers to exploit the opportunities offered by the rising demand for wireless broadband. The solution leverages NEC’s expertise in the area of Femtocell, WiMAX, and LTE, and NetCracker’s next-generation operations support systems capabilities.

New services such as video streaming, rich media content, and multimedia gaming pose new challenges in rolling out infrastructure cost-effectively. These challenges can only be met when the hardware component of the infrastructure comes well-integrated with the OSS for service management, the company said.

Masanobu Yamaguchi, vice president and executive general manager at NEC, said NEC’s Femtocell, WiMAX, and LTE innovations, combined with NetCracker’s experience enabling mobile operators to maximize their return on investment, ensures that wireless broadband can become the foundation for growth for service providers around the world.

The joint solution suite includes device management and proactive management of device, customer, and service utilization. It also combines NEC’s SaaS platform and third-party applications with NetCracker’s provisioning capabilities.

From NEC’s European R&D Labs comes the latest in identity management. NEC will demonstrate this week at Mobile World Congress its Identity Brokerage solution, which supports single-sign-on across a range of domains and technologies. It is also able to handle distributed user profiles and policies for a controlled exposure of user attributes. It also provides enhanced privacy and security for the end-user.

Heinrich Stüttgen, vice president of NEC Europe, said, “Identity Management in the Telco industry opens doors to new services beyond single-sign-on. NEC shows how an appropriate Identity Management solution can foster business collaborations between different business players, resulting in a broader service portfolio offered to end-users.
