Verizon Greens Up with e-Billing

Call it staggering: Verizon Communications Inc.’s three main business units – consumer landline, business and wireless – each generate around one quarter of a million bills every month. That’s a lot of trees, but the carrier is getting greener – and more efficient – with paperless billing.

Verizon’s secure online option has attracted growing percentages of users, it reported. In fact, 8 percent of Verizon’s consumer landline customers, 18 percent of wireless customers and 32 percent of business customers in 2008 went paperless entirely.

And the goal is to double that every year going forward. It’s good for the planet, and good for Verizon’s bottom line, not having to print and mail all those statements. “Doing the right thing is actually saving money,” Mike Coyne, director of finance operations for the services organization, told Telephony.
