Nokia (NOK) is throwing a big pile of cash Obopay’s way in order to get into the mobile payments game. Obopay is a startup company that’s taking the mobile banking industry into developing nations.

Nokia won’t say exactly how large of an investment it is making, but a recent regulatory filing from Obopay was for the sale of up to $70 million in stock.

Mobile banking generally is considered to have big upswing potential. Nokia, which has been having troubles of late as the world’s largest handset maker, seems to be trying to diversify its business.
