Consulting firms Acumen Solutions and KTA Group have announced the availability of a Data Center Energy Audit that they say comes with a savings guarantee.

The Data Center Energy Audit includes an evaluation of the facilities, electrical, heating and cooling. It also includes an assessment of the equipment, the network and the applications that run across them. The goal is to provide a comprehensive set of recommendations about how to either reduce power consumption and its associated costs or to grow within an existing set of real estate or energy constraints.

A recent study revealed that in a typical data center installation, one-third of the total power goes to IT Equipment. The rest is consumed by cooling (50 percent), the power system (9 percent), and lighting (8 percent). Research has shown that many data centers operate far below their achievable efficiency, resulting in significant and unnecessary energy spend.

If the Data Center Energy Audit does not find recommendations for savings that equal or exceed the cost of the audit, the Audit is free. This applies to all data centers with more than 5,000 square feet of space or more than 150 servers in operation.
