As the importance of policy management grows, so too does the market share of mobile policy market leader, Bridgewater Systems, according to Infonetics Research.

Bridgewater Systems, a solutions provider that bills itself as a mobile personalization company, announced this week that it had been recognized as the global policy server market share leader for 2008 by Infonetics Research in its new April 2009 report: Policy Servers Market Share, Size and Forecasts.

Together, Alcatel-Lucent, Bridgewater, Camiant, Ericsson, Juniper Networks, and Nokia Siemens Networks command more than 70 percent market share in the worldwide policy server market.

Infonetics forecasted the policy server market to grow to $1.3 billion by 2013 – a continued double-digit growth rate. Bridgewater has gained the top spot through its success in 3G and 4G deployments where service providers are implementing policy servers to manage growth in mobile data, personalize applications, and enforce quality of service across applications and content.

The adoption of 3G and 4G LTE and WiMAX networks is expected to further increase demand as multimedia applications grow in popularity and as mobile devices become more specialized and sophisticated.

The Bridgewater Policy Controller with Smart Caps is a PCRF-compliant policy control function that provides real-time network, application, and subscriber policies to manage mobile data growth, ensure fair usage, prevent mobile ‘bill shock,’ and deliver personalized services. The mobile bill shock issue is getting plenty of play in Europe this week as the EU parliament votes on new regulations designed to prevent it. New rules may include requirements for data roaming caps, real-time subscriber notifications and others controls.

Shira Levine, directing analyst of Next Gen OSS and Policy at Infonetics Research, said Bridgewater recognized the importance of the mobile segment of the policy server market early on and is benefiting from the continued rapid growth in this market.

David Sharpley, senior vice president at Bridgewater Systems, said “The Infonetics report validates Bridgewater’s unique network, application and subscriber policy approach to managing mobile data growth, personalizing applications such as on-demand videos and social networking, ensuring fair usage, and preventing mobile bill shock.”
