Juniper Networks Inc. introduced Wednesday at the Cable Show ’09 its StreamScope eRM integrated video monitoring and analysis solution for its M and MX Series routers. StreamScope eRM enables network operators to perform deep, application-layer video stream quality monitoring within the edge routing infrastructure.
By integrating video monitoring capabilities within its routers, Juniper said it eliminates the need for separate video monitoring appliances, enabling a lower total cost of ownership. The combination enables service providers to identify potential quality issues at multiple levels, from the network layer through the MPEG layer.
With support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links, StreamScope eRM is offered with up to 10 times the scalability of typical video monitoring appliances. Additionally, the tight coupling with Juniper’s JUNOS software forwarding and control planes ensures simple, unified device and network management.
“Service providers need to be more proactive at managing high-bandwidth video traffic and the integration of video analysis and monitoring into routing platforms can accomplish this with maximum scale and performance,” said Ray Mota, chief research officer, Synergy Research Group. “In addition, this announcement exemplifies the value of Juniper’s PSDP to provide customers with offerings that are built on best-in-class technology, fully integrated with the router infrastructure, and delivered at the right time to meet market demands.”
StreamScope eRM builds upon the technology of Triveni Digital, a provider of digital signal monitoring and analysis solutions and subsidiary of LG Electronics, and was built for the JUNOS software using the Juniper Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP). After undergoing extensive validation testing by Juniper Networks, the offer is being sold and supported as Juniper product offerings.
