In a short speech Friday morning, President Obama announced he will name a government cybersecurity coordinator and confirmed that computer hackers infiltrated his campaign last fall.
Obama said there needs to be a comprehensive strategy to secure private, government communications. He plans to make it a top priority for his administration.
"It's now clear that this cyberthreat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation," Obama said. "It's also clear that we're not as prepared as we should be, as a government, or as a country."
The new policies will address the threats coming from at home and abroad.
Not only will he name a cybersecurity coordinator, the president plans to begin an education campaign. He has personal experience with computer hacking. Obama told reporters that hackers gained access to a number of files – including travel plans and policy papers – during his campaign last fall.
