VPIsystems has unveiled OnePlan Access for FTTx version 2.0. It’s designed to support passive optical network (PON) configurations and optimize outside plant design.

VPIsystems calls OnePlan Access a comprehensive planning and decision support system for outside plant planning of next generation access networks. It helps carriers optimize their fiber cables and address the end-to-end tactical issues associated with FTTx network planning. OnePlan leverages existing infrastructure and minimizes the associated engineering, cable and equipment costs for carriers. It also captures market forecast information and existing network topologies to plan for future demand.

The company says other benefits include:

  • Support for planning both PON and non-PON architectures, and ability to determine which configuration will be most beneficial
  • Reduction in the cost, effort and time required to optimally plan the outside plant aspects of FTTx networks
  • Ability to plan for phased FTTx deployments and conduct demand-based, multi-period planning
  • Standardization on network planning methodology across all service areas
