More than 100 former Nortel employees in Calgary are suing the telecom giant for severance pay. The fired workers lost their jobs last summer when operations were ceased at the Westwinds research facility in Alberta’s largest city.
In the court record, the plaintiffs say they were guaranteed severance if they agreed to stay through a transition period. When the company filed for bankruptcy this past winter, the laid-off workers say they were told no money was coming their way.
