With the help of a new Software-as-a-Service delivery option, open source business support systems gained more traction this week as Iowa Wireless Services (dba i wireless) and partner T-Mobile USA selected Transverse’s BSS platform.

Transverse, which is based in Austin, Texas, introduced a SaaS option last month for its Business Logic Execution Environment Platform (blee(p), which is an open-source BSS offering. It now has customers from using GSM, CDMA and direct broadcast satellite technologies, and is the leader in providing commercially supported, carrier-grade, open-source BSS for communication service providers.

The blee(p) solution provides a cost-effective and scalable means to easily deploy new services and business models. Because it eliminates the need to build, operate and maintain systems on a service provider’s premises, they can realize significant CAPEX and OPEX savings, while managing mission critical functions.

Mike Haskins, CEO and COO of i wireless, said. “Transverse is unique in the industry as they are providing us with state-of-the-art technology to help us deploy advanced services, access to the source code, a lower cost of ownership, and deep domain expertise to help us maintain our competitive edge.”

Haskins also said Transverse allows his company to maximize productivity through efficiencies and automation.

The blee(p) platform will manage the entire range of BSS functions for i wireless including:

  • Billing, invoicing and settlements
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • Mediation
  • Rating
  • Payment processing
  • Service activation
  • Promotions and campaign management
  • Point-of-sale
  • Inventory management
  • Contact center

i wireless provides wireless voice and data services throughout the state of Iowa, western Illinois and bordering communities in Nebraska and South Dakota on the GSM-1900 platform. It has its headquarters in Urbandale, Iowa, and has more than 250 full-service stores and dealerships. As part of a growth initiative, i wireless has expanded its wireless voice and data coverage by adding 120 additional towers this year.

Jim Messer, CEO of Transverse, said, “Their selection of Transverse, and the blee(p) On Demand service, is another investment in advanced technology and an exceptional customer experience."
