The Federal Trade Commission has given its thumbs-up to Sprint’s acquisition of Virgin Mobile USA.

The deal still requires FCC approval, but there’s little reason at this point to think Sprint won’t get it.

The Virgin Mobile acquisition means a big expansion in the prepaid space for Sprint, which already owns 13 percent of the company it’s acquiring for nearly $500 million.
