A First: Cablevision Launches Interactive TV Ads

Cablevision Systems Corp. will become the first domestic cableco to incorporate interactive, targeted ads into its television service, beginning next month.

About 3 million digital-television customers will start getting the ads, from six initial advertisers (including Benjamin Moore paint). The company told Bloomberg that banners at the bottom of the screen will be clickable via remote, where viewers can sign up for free samples or coupons, without disrupting the show.

Cablevision is also developing technology to route ads to specific households based on demographics.
