Workers to AT&T: Give Us $1 Billion in OT

Even as we approach 2010, $1 billion still seems like a lot of money, doesn’t it?

Five-thousand employees of AT&T say they were denied overtime payments in violation of state law in California, as well as federal labor laws. The company’s policy exempts lower-level managers from OT.

Two separate class-action lawsuits have been filed – in federal courts in Atlanta and San Francisco. One of the law firms representing the workers says it was previously successful in a similar suit against an AT&T subsidiary in the Northeast. The phone giant has denied that its policies violate any labor laws.

Let’s see ... $1 billion divided 5,000 ways ... $200,000 apiece. Not bad if the suit is successful.
