Comptel Corp. has debuted Comptel Dynamic SIM Management, a modular solution that the company says addresses two main areas: the just-in-time allocation of numbers and services; and the full lifecycle management of SIM cards – from order to deactivation. It allows communications service providers to improve efficiency and offer more personalized services at reduced costs, according to Comptel.

Individual SIMs currently need to have numbers and services pre-allocated to them before they are distributed to resellers. This creates real inefficiencies, as CSPs have to pre-provision more cards than needed to ensure the success of their marketing campaigns. This then results in many SIMs never being used – creating costs without ever generating revenue. Comptel Dynamic SIM Management helps CSPs overcome these issues by enabling the allocation and activation of services and numbers when customers actually use the SIMs for the first time.

Comptel Dynamic SIM Management's just-in-time allocation functionality effectively unbundles the physical card from the number and the service package, to help operators overcome pre-provisioning challenges and minimize overhead costs. It also enables CSPs to track SIMs through their lifecycle and monitor key performance indicators. In addition, the solution can help CSPs streamline their business processes and simplify their IT architectures, by allowing the consolidation of their disparate, and often manual, systems into one.

The solution supports Mobile Number Portability for those subscribers that wish to keep their existing numbers.

"With Comptel Dynamic SIM Management, there is no need to pre-allocate phone numbers into the Home Location Register or to the SIM – numbers are only allocated when the cards have actually been purchased," said Simo Saaskilahti, senior vice president of product and solutions and deputy CEO, Comptel. "Subscribers can browse free numbers with their handset, and select the numbers, packages and services they prefer when activating the phone. This new, innovative approach not only allows CSPs to offer more flexible number allocations for users, but also minimizes costs and overhead as resources can be reserved just in time."
