Software makers Convergys Corp. (CVG) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) are teaming to create a BSS platform for communications and utilities providers.
The value of the partnership was not disclosed. The name of the new system, however, was. It’s the Convergys Smart Communications Suite powered by Microsoft.
The platform is under development. It will combine Microsoft’s CRM and SQL server with Convergys’ BSS capabilities. The idea is that network and utilities operators will be able to deliver a “wide range” of new and differentiated services, Convergys said. Details regarding potential innovations were not provided.
Convergys did say licensing costs will be low and that maintenance expenses can “rapidly reduce cost-to-market for new services.” In addition, the user interface will mimic the look of Microsoft’s Office and Outlook programs; call center agents, then, will be able to easily maneuver through the windows, up-sell customers and help resolve their problems more quickly, Convergys said.
“We are providing new capabilities...to launch new services faster, provide superior customer service experiences, and create new or enhance business growth plans at a total cost of ownership that simply can’t be matched,” said Bob Lento, president of Convergys’ information management unit. “The result is a solution that ushers in a new era of affordable innovation and customer-centricity.”
