Convergys Corp. has completed the implementation of its “Smart BSS” solutions for Telecom Egypt, the largest operator and provider of fixed-line services in the Middle East. Convergys also provided consulting services as part of the implementation to help Telecom Egypt maximize the productivity of the solution.
Convergys has now migrated all of Telecom Egypt’s many millions of subscribers to the solution, which is rating and billing all instances of subscriber activity.
Telecom Egypt is using Convergys Rating and Billing Manager Smart App to enable a customer-centric approach to its subscribers, allowing them to launch flexible and responsive market-driven offers and promotions, rate and bill in real time, and provide a consolidated bill with multiple national and international telephone lines.
“With Convergys Rating and Billing Manager, we have a significantly improved view of our customers and can respond quickly to their wants and needs with appropriate offers and promotions. This has a direct and positive impact on customer loyalty and our continued success,” said Khaled Marmoush, TE's CIO.
That’s critical for Telecom Egypt, the incumbent telecommunications provider in Egypt, because it’s also the largest provider of fixed-line services in the Middle East with more than 9.6 million customers as at the end of September 2009. TE is the only company in Egypt that is able to offer the full range of fixed line and retail telecommunications services and is the sole provider of wholesale telecommunications services.
To wit, Telecom Egypt provides retail telecommunication services including access, local, long distance, and international voice, Internet and data, and other services. The company also provides wholesale services including broadband capacity leasing to ISPs, and national and international interconnection services.
Telecom Egypt currently participates in the mobile segment in Egypt by providing mobile interconnectivity through its current 44.95 percent holding in Vodafone Egypt, one of the three Egyptian mobile operators. Vodafone Egypt already has a growing subscriber base of over 22 million as at September 2009.
Telecom Egypt’s Internet and data services include the provision of Internet broadband access through its subsidiary TE Data, data transmission services and leased lines. Internet use in Egypt has grown at an exponential rate year-on-year since 2003 with a compound annual growth rate of 211.6 percent for TE Data's ADSL subscriber base. In September 2009, TE Data was servicing more than 572 thousand ADSL subscribers, an increase of 68 percent from September 2008.
