IP Infusion, will soon release its ZebOS Network Platform version 7.8 software. Available in April 2010, ZebOS 7.8 features support for Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS), Data Center Bridging, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) resiliency for wireless backhaul and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) implementations required for Carrier Ethernet deployments.

Moving forward, NGN technology will need automated interface-independent provisioning, simplified network administration and IP/MPLS enabled end-to-end networks. GMPLS has been standardized to add control plane functionality that was missing in MPLS and will deliver a seamless control plane and network management at the performance and price-points required by equipment manufacturers today. IP Infusion says ZebOS 7.8 is the first solution to embrace GMPLS support features, and subsequent releases of the ZebOS Network Platform will continue to enhance this support.

“Driven by the explosive growth in today’s mobile devices, demand for network traffic bandwidth and capacity is doubling every year, and is now overwhelming the legacy SONET based networks,” said Koichi Narasaki, president and CEO, IP Infusion. “The new, groundbreaking features included in ZebOS 7.8 will change the way network equipment manufacturers design networks, thus solidifying IP Infusion’s role as an industry leader in providing the essential, market-ready solutions vendors need to rapidly deploy products in the expanding NGN markets.”

As bandwidth and capacity needs are expanding the size of traditional data centers, change is in progress that will optimize these data centers for power, area, management and costs. Data Center Bridging is a unifying Ethernet-based technology for switch fabrics in the data center. ZebOS 7.8 will include Ethernet-based Data Center Bridging to enable the implementation of converged single technology switch fabrics in the data center, aimed at optimizing traffic and reducing costs, power and space requirements.

In addition, ZebOS 7.8 enhances Carrier Ethernet and MPLS solutions to support the latest features and reliability requirements for wireless backhaul. ZebOS 7.8 enhances MPLS reliability features such as Virtual Circuit Connectivity Verification (VCCV), Bi-Directional Forwarding Detection (BFD) for MPLS LSPs, and BFD for VCCV, according to IP Infusion.
