Dutch incumbent carrier KPN has selected Celona and Logica for a major OSS network inventory application data migration, now live. The result, it says, is a “multimillion-euro” cost savings.
The deployment combines the Celona Evolve zero-downtime application data migration software platform with Logica’s IT services and implementation/integration expertise. KPN said it was able to run a business-centric migration with minimal disruption and risk to its business.
KPN has been able to migrate business-process specific network inventory management (NIM) data from its existing live NIM system, copy that data in real-time to its new live NIM system and keep the two instances in real-time synchronization for as long as needed to support KPN’s business processes.
Data migration has been a long-standing problem area for telecom providers who are undertaking OSS/BSS application transformation, consolidation or upgrades. Application areas spanning billing, network inventory, CRM, order management and others have grown increasingly complex, with business processes that cannot be disrupted without a severe impact on the business. Therefore, the need for software tools purposely built for application data migration that can be successfully utilized at a business control level to de-risk and remove enterprise migration costs, has never been so high.
Aging tools and methods which have their roots in data warehousing are not suited to OSS/BSS critical business application migration, the companies noted in the release. This has created a clear requirement for new generation software that can provide the technical and business level agility to meet today’s needs in the changing telecoms landscape.
