Because misapplied taxes are costing carriers thousands of dollars monthly, TeleBill Inc., an outsourced billing services provider, has contracted with BillSoft Inc. to provide tax rating on TeleBill’s communications services in a real-time billing and taxing environment.

BillSoft is a provider of transaction-based taxation. Its EZTax platform provides a comprehensive tax system that supports all major platform environments and offers a number of different interfaces and improves the accuracy and speed of applying taxes.

In business since 1985, TeleBill provides a variety of services for small to midsized telecommunications carriers, including billing, least-cost routing, CABS billing, telecommunications tax filing and more. It provides VoIP and converged solutions along with support for legacy products.

“We were impressed with BillSoft’s EZTax platform and its ability to tax all kinds of telecommunications services in real-time,” said Paul Tucci, president and founder of TeleBill. “And the remote-hosted EZTax ASP application was a perfect fit with our outsourced business model.”

BillSoft also said this week that the State of Florida Department of Revenue has recertified the company for accuracy with assigning addresses to local tax jurisdictions.

The recertification comes after an analysis by the State of Florida of BillSoft’s database and determined that it met the 95 percent requirement in assigning street addresses, address ranges, post office boxes and office box ranges to the proper local tax jurisdictions. BillSoft achieved a rating of over 98 percent.

BillSoft’s EZGeo product correctly identifies tax jurisdictions for communications services across the U.S. EZGeo also provides address scrubbing to postal standards (CASS certified) and determines whether an address is in a special tax district or unincorporated area. For communications and cable providers, this degree of accuracy has financial advantages. The recertification means whenever they use EZGeo in Florida, they’re eligible to receive a higher tax collection allowance (.75 percent versus .25 percent) and are granted the hold harmless provision of the Communication Services Tax (CST).

“This is great news for our customers who do business in Florida and for any communications provider relying on EZGeo,” said Vicki Klein, president of BillSoft. “It also gives kudos to our IT department that’s committed to maintaining the product goal while improving the functionality and performance.”
