Convergys Corp. has received a new U.S. patent for a breakthrough that could redefine the rating and billing of real-time prepaid and postpaid subscriber events.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded Convergys the formal patent for state-of-the-art computerized processing and billing of pre- and postpaid simultaneous events. Convergys created this new capability to allow service providers the ability to process, charge, and bill concurrent events, such as taking a call, downloading a song, and sending a text message — all in real time.

Vinay Mehta, senior vice president of software development at Convergys, called it breakthrough technology that extends the company’s Rating and Billing Manager Smart App to provide real-time convergent charging and billing of simultaneous events. He said it gives service providers enhanced revenue assurance capabilities that directly impacts their bottom line.

This is Convergys’ Information Management groups' second significant patent Convergys this year. It brings to 229 their total patents or patents pending for advanced technology in both customer management and information management. The company has invested over $1 billion in research and development.

The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), recently named Convergys a winner of the Fall 2009 Recognized Innovator award for battling complexity in technology customer care.
