Security and back office operations are emerging as essential elements of the next generation network since it has become the now generation network. To help establish best practices and guidelines for their implementation, the NGN IMS Forum today published three new papers.
Member companies of the forum – Aricent, Comverse, HP, Marben Products, Mu Dynamics, Traffix Systems, Tech Mahindra and T-Mobile – contributed to the papers:
- BSS/OSS & Security for Services in NGN/IMS Paradigm: Guidelines for Implementation
- Interoperability Challenges in Diameter Implementation
- IMS AAA Architecture: The Diameter Advantage
The BSS/OSS & Security Working Group incorporated work from the forum’s recent Plugfest interoperability event to develop the “BSS/OSS & Security for Services in NGN/IMS Paradigm Guidelines for Implementation” document, which will help operators answer the call for open, flexible solutions and adhere to industry standards while doing so. The forum’s goal with this paper is to unify critical business functions to better manage and effectively monetize NGN services and the next generation subscriber experience.
“Clearly, carriers are trying to monetize ever more creative application, which they often have no control over,” said Thomas Maufer, director of technical marketing at Mu Dynamics. “But they do have control over the infrastructure and the back end infrastructure needs to be very secure and very robust to support these unknown applications developers are writing to run on the network.”
This paper covers the following points and offers some suggested best practices for their implementation:
- Introduction of Next Generation BSS/OSS & Security Architectures
- Security and Reliability
- BSS/OSS Unification
- Adopting or moving toward NGN OSS
- Deploying an IP Subsystem network
- IMS/NGN Rating & Charging Impacts
- Diameter Compatibility Challenges
- IMS/Next Generation Network BSS/OSS
Maufer added that to address the challenge of bridging legacy, current and future systems, service providers need to have an innovative, scalable business support system BSS.
