Wireless operators and electric utilities trying to bring innovative services to market can thank Pitney Bowes Business Insight for cloud access to the largest geospatial data catalog with the introduction of the Geosk Platform, a location-based Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering.
The Geosk Platform hosts a comprehensive geospatial data catalog and delivers access through a cloud-based portal. Users can access geospatial information and integrate it into business operations including network expansion, asset management and location-based marketing.
The Geosk will help providers avoid inefficiencies commonly associated with accessing vast amounts of geospatial data. By specifying data requirements, formats and necessary levels of aggregation, users can customize data and maps to their specific business needs from their desktops in as little as 60 seconds.
The Geosk Marketplace is available to MapInfo Professional 10.5 users. The catalog includes both free and fee-based geospatial data from Pitney Bowes Business Insight as well third-party data such as Bing and Google maps. Users can integrate internal information such as network coverage maps or “call before you dig” program maps. The Geosk Library will enable providers to store, share and manage geospatial data from a cloud-based content library that is centralized and easily accessible.
Chris Cherry, director communications vertical strategy at PBBI, said the ability to access data that is up-to-date, cost and time efficient and most specific to providers’ exact needs is a key strategic advantage in this market. “The Geosk Platform not only places geospatial data right at users’ finger tips for fast access via the cloud, but also allows for managing, analyzing and leveraging data better than ever before,” he said.
Other benefits of the Geosk Platform are:
- Enhanced Access to Data — uses a Metadata browser.
- Improved Efficiency — identify specific data in the desired format to gain quick insights and drive strategic business decisions.
- Cost-Effective Data Delivery — Access via cloud-based portal eliminates the cost of traditional CD or DVD delivery. Data is updated frequently and automatically.
- Enhanced Content Management — share geospatial data from a cloud-based content library, manage multiple files proactively, focus more on data analysis versus search.
