The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC) has announced the launch of commercial wireless services across the nation, with a range of enablement vendors.
The BTC is rolling out a comprehensive wireless network that includes Wi-Fi, WiMAX and LTE. Aptilo Networks will provide billing, user services and access authentication. Aptilo says its Service Management Platform is a field-proven, state-of-the-art system for delivering carrier-grade broadband access services in large public, semi-public and private networks. The platform facilitates easy and scalable service delivery, administration, billing control and monitoring.
Aptilo's feature-rich platform allows BTC to offer their customers a wide array of options such as customized pricing plans for access to pay-for-use services, including premium levels and the capability to utilize a credit-card payment architecture tailored to their clients' specific needs. BTC can also associate price plans to a specific location (e.g. hotel) or provide a multi-location service plan through Aptilo's location-based and roaming features.
Additionally, BTC can automatically process and analyze data output from the Wi-Fi service, including usage information and events, using the Aptilo platform. Aptilo also provides comprehensive Quality of Service control.
The system integration was provided by Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent's turnkey end-to-end wireless system integration services allow BTC to focus on its core business while leveraging Alcatel-Lucent's expertise with complex multi-vendor networking.
The service also features advanced billing and credit-card processing functionality enabled by First Atlantic Commerce (FAC) to provide branded payment portals for customers like Atlantis Paradise Island.
"The ability to offer our customers a flexible wireless solution that's scalable, cost-effective and fast to deploy is critical in today's economic climate when time-to-revenue is key," said Howard Mason, CIO at BTC. "Alcatel-Lucent's complete solution enables seamless, simplified installations. Combined with Aptilo's platform which fast-tracks deployments and the advanced ecommerce solutions from First Atlantic Commerce, this was the right choice for Bahamas Telecom."
