NTS Communications has turned to ADTRAN as the vendor for its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) buildout.

ADTRAN says its Total Access 5000 GPON solution helped resolve a number of network issues that NTS faced when deploying OTT video services and HD IPTV. The architecture backing the solution enables service providers to protect their investment and future-proof their networks. With a multi-terabit backplane, the company says Total Access 5000 offers unmatched capacity and scalability. Designed to be flexible, it’s supposed to help service providers launch new services easily.

When complete, the three-year NTS project will reach more than 25,000 subscribers.

“Our incumbent’s GPON solution proved to be less than reliable and could not handle the simultaneous demands of HD IPTV, OTT video and multi-megabit data services," said Milton Schober, vice president, Data Services, NTS. “When we trialed the Total Access 5000 it worked perfectly, eliminating the reliability issues we had been experiencing and providing the scalability we need to meet the critical demands of this project."

NTS has used Total Access 5000 to add mobile backhaul; the company is looking to add Active Ethernet soon.

NTS Communications is a wholly owned subsidiary of Xfone, the largest non-ILEC telecommunications network in West Texas.
