A new report from Infonetics Research predicts that the service-delivery platform (SDP) software and services market will hit $5.16 billion in 2015.

"While operators' interest in application programming interface (API) exposure continues to be a major contributor to SDP investments, we're seeing those strategies becoming increasingly sophisticated. Operators are recognizing the opportunities associated with delivering enterprise services to specific verticals, such as healthcare, retail, and machine-to-machine (M2M), and are exploring how they can combine their own network-based enablers with enterprise APIs to support these highly targeted services. We're also seeing a push by operators in using their SDPs to support enterprise app stores in addition to more traditional consumer storefronts," said Shira Levine, Infonetics’ directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy.

The forecast is one of many highlights in the firm’s new Service Delivery Platform Software and Services report, which tracks fixed-line and wireless SDP software and services used by operators to create and deliver services to their subscribers.

The research found Huawei to be the overall market leader, with momentum that could knock Ericsson from its perch as No. 1 in SDP services and Oracle, which is tops in the SDP software segment.

Look for SDP services to grow faster than software over the next few years, the report says, due to ongoing integration of new services by systems integrators and third-party application developers. Growing traction for hosted SDP delivery, fueled by capex constraints and economic uncertainty, will also be a driver.

Infonetics says wireless deployments are outpacing fixed-line deployments and will continue to be the primary driver for SDP market growth because mobile operators view SDPs as a key tool in their app-store strategies.
