While announcing Monday that it is the first carrier to offer Google Wallet, Sprint may have forgotten to add a disclaimer: The mobile commerce app wasn’t available yet on all Nexus S 4G phones.
Google and Sprint confirmed that the app supporting mobile-phone payments had not been installed on many handsets on launch day, according to ConsumerReports.org, in an article.
“An over-the-air software update will be automatically pushed to all Nexus S 4G phones over the course of the week, and once you agreed to the update and it installs, Google Wallet will then be available on your phone," the article quoted Sprint spokesperson Emmy Anderson. “All Nexus S 4G users will receive the software update with Google Wallet by the end of the week."
Google Wallet lets customers use their smartphones as wallets, making credit card purchases at hundreds of thousands of participating retailers – including Macy’s, Foot Locker and Subway – by tapping their phone.
The first Sprint phone to support the app is the Nexus S 4G.
