IT infrastructure solutions provider Terremark, recently acquired by Verizon, has completed the latest expansion of its data center in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Terremark now operates the entire 185,000-square-foot facility, adding 15,000 square feet of raised floor space to its current operations. This expansion makes the Network Access Point (NAP) do Brasil – which is capable of housing 100,000 servers – one of the largest multi-tenant data centers in the region.

The expansion of Terremark's operations in Brazil is part of its overall global strategy to deliver advanced infrastructure and managed IT services through its network of close to 50 strategically located datacenters. The NAP do Brasil has successfully completed compliance audits and received accreditation showing it has conformed to standards that help protect the integrity of customers' critical and sensitive information.

"Our main focus in expanding our Sao Paulo data center is to provide local customers with a secure, highly available hosting environment for their mission-critical applications," said Hugo Zanon, general manager of Verizon's Brazilian Terremark operations. "The NAP do Brasil offers our multinational customers a globally connected facility they can leverage as they deploy the IT resources needed to tap the growing Brazilian and Latin American markets."

The NAP do Brasil was designed and built with multiple redundancies in its various subsystems with data-center reliability in mind. The high-voltage power supply is delivered from two substations, ensuring cleaner energy and provides the power required to keep pace with growing demand.

Terremark's NAP do Brasil in Sao Paulo is home to what the company calls the most important Internet exchange point in Latin America with massive and diverse connectivity from the region's largest carriers. As part of the company's expanded global footprint of nearly 50 data centers, the facility delivers a broad range of services from Terremark's expanded IT solution portfolio that includes the combined cloud, security and IT capabilities of Terremark and Verizon.
