Telcordia has been selected to manage mobile number portability (MNP) in Argentina. A consortium of all mobile operators in Argentina approved the decision.
Along with implementing carrier-grade MNP software solution to Argentina's mobile service providers, Telcordia will provide training and managed services over the five-year term. Telcordia manages number portability for more than one billion users worldwide.
Along with its partner Telmark, Telcordia has established the joint venture company Administradora de la Portabilidad Argentina S.A. as part of the agreement.
Telcordia says it was chosen for its background, technical capabilities and pricing model, which offered the lowest total cost of ownership. Telcordia also says it demonstrated proven experience in number-portability deployments with the most deployments worldwide, including consistent on-time delivery of software to support installation timelines of each country. With Argentina, Telcordia will now support more than 175 million mobile and fixed line subscribers across Latin America, including Chile and Mexico.
"We look forward to bringing our Latin American and worldwide number portability experience to Argentina as we work closely with the country's service providers to install and manage a number portability system that will give consumers more choice and creates a more competitive marketplace," said Richard Jacowleff, president, interconnection solutions, Telcordia. "With the most number portability implementations worldwide, Telcordia continues to demonstrate that it can offer a reliable and robust number portability solution that meets a broad range of needs."
The Telcordia number-portability solution has been selected for deployments in countries around the world, including: U.S., Canada, Mexico, Chile, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, Greece, UAE, South Africa and Nigeria.
