TelNet Worldwide, the Michigan-based provider of telecom services to businesses, has implemented Equinox Information Systems' Protector fraud-management system.

TelNet licensed Protector in late 2010 to identify and defend against costly communications fraud. The Protector software integrates with more than 200 switches and data formats, including TelNet’s Genband C3 switching platform.

Equinox says Protector provides real-time telecom fraud detection by identifying instances in which a customer's actual usage varies from expected usage in a manner that suggests fraudulent activity. Over the last twenty years, Protector claims to have saved carriers millions of dollars in fraud losses by distinguishing communications fraud from legitimate customer usage.

“The Protector software safeguards the integrity of the network from hackers and other telco fraud criminals," said Rick Riordan, TelNet’s finance director. “We have implemented Protector software across our entire switched network to protect our customers and business partners from communications fraud."

“Time is money, and Protector will certainly play a key role for TelNet in spotting telecom fraud proactively rather than reactively," said David Ledbetter, national sales director for Equinox Information Systems.
