Revenue and business assurance provider WeDo Technologies has been granted a British and European patent for a product that enables communication service providers (CSPs) to manage risk, fraud, security, content control and legal interception, entitled “Communication System with Distributed Risk Management Solution (DRMS)." The solution aims to change the way risk management can be undertaken in networks as risk control begins to migrate to the terminal device with the changing nature of the industry.

As network equipment begins to change from switches to IP-based core networks and “end to end" IP services to multiple devices, CSPs are faced with multiple device IDs across many different channels. As a result, information has begun to move away from centralized systems to end points such as a smartphone and the cloud. Portugal-based WeDo says its patent, DRMS, permits data to be collected that could not otherwise be collected by a central system. The data gathered for analysis is amassed on a customer-by-customer basis enabling CSPs to focus on the highest risk consumers, minimizing the risk control-related data that needs to be passed in the network and making risk detection smarter, the company said.

WeDo Technologies brings present control systems into the digital IP age allowing CSPs to monitor fraud and revenue assurance, not just via SMS and Voice, but also over IP and cloud, giving network operators full terminal-generated sessions and service data for risk management. Benefits of this include monitoring that couldn’t be done by a centralized system, such as a peer-to-peer service for finance and application driven services where fraud and risk may occur for operators, WeDo said.

“CSPs are the face of telecommunication," said Simon Collins, director of Praesidium, WeDo Technologies’ business consulting division. "They bear the brunt when a problem occurs, even if the error doesn’t lie with them. CSPs will have to manage this changing environment to avoid consumer backlash and damage to their brand. This patent and the associated solutions give CSPs the visibility to see what is really happening in the customer terminal."
