Cisco on Thursday announced plans to acquire Truviso, Inc., a company that provides real-time network data analysis and reporting software.

Cisco said Truviso addresses the demand from service providers and enterprises to understand the data on their networks. Truviso's software analytics, the networking giant said, strengthens its network management platform with core technology to gather and analyze streaming data.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, although Cisco expects to close the acquisition in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2012. Cisco said Truviso's team would join its Cisco Network Management Technology Group.

"Customers want to be able to tap into and better analyze the enormous volume of data traversing their networks to identify ways to enhance services and generate new revenue opportunities," said Jamie Lerner, vice president and general manager of Cisco Network Management Technology Group, in a statement. "Embedding Truviso's real time business intelligence into the network will help customers unlock these capabilities at the speed of the network."
