Infrastructure giant Ericsson will buy Devoteam Telecom & Media's France-based operations. Devoteam, a provider of information and communications technology consulting, has 5,000 employees in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Four hundred France-based IT services pros will join Ericsson when the deal closes near the end of the first quarter. The acquisition includes Devoteam's TV SmartVision operations.

Devoteam focuses on consulting and systems integration for operations and business support systems, service delivery platforms and applications, IP multimedia subsystems, IP and radio networks and TV. Ericsson says the buy complements its strengths in these fields, both in the operator and media segments.

"Acquiring activities of Devoteam adds unique expertise in complex, strategic and technical consulting engagements that will enable us to immediately enhance the value that we bring to our customers," says Magnus Mandersson, Ericsson's executive VP and head of business unit global services.
