India-based telecommunications giant Tata has chosen Allot Communications' Service Gateway solution to provide cloud-hosted policy services to its mobile-operator customers.

The solution will be featured in Tata Communications’ new Hosted Policy Engine, which the company is calling the world’s first cloud-based solution for policy control. It's designed to improve the profitability of MNOs. Tata Communications offers policy management and enforcement solutions as a managed service, hosting it in the cloud to reduce the complexity, cost and timeline for deployment and ongoing operations.

Israel-based Allot says its Service Gateway technology offers Tata Communications the ability to provide MNOs support for detailed broadband usage analysis; network utilization optimization through congestion management, caching and video optimization; and differentiated offer creation through agile and powerful policy enforcement.

Allot’s Policy Management solution is 3GPP-compliant and equipped with standard interfaces, allowing for easy scalability to support more subscribers and MNOs, the company said.

“Inclusion in Tata Communications’ cloud-based solution aligns well with Allot’s strategy to virtualize network services in order to optimize the cost of deployment,” said Andrei Elefant, VP of marketing and product management, Allot Communications. “The flexible design of Allot’s solutions allows us to quickly adapt to different deployment scenarios, including deployments in the cloud, strongly positioning Allot to capture significant market share as demand for cloud-based services continues to grow.”
