3Com Backs EU’s ‘Green’ Data Centre Code of Conduct

07/23/2009

Network solutions provider 3Com is officially getting behind the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres, which commits 3Com to supporting the pro-environment code and other participants through the development of products, information, services and education.

The Code of Conduct aims to stimulate data centre operators and owners to reduce energy consumption in a cost-effective manner without harming their mission-critical functions. Electricity consumption in data centres, including enterprise servers, ICT equipment, cooling equipment and power equipment, is expected to contribute significantly to the electricity consumption of the EU commercial sector in the near future. Western European electricity consumption is expected to grow from 56 terawatt hours per year (TWh/yr) in 2007 to 104 TWh/yr by 2020.

The decision to endorse the EU code aligns with 3Com’s new enterprise H3C networking strategy.
