Aksh Optifibre Applies Elitecore’s OSS/BSS for First IPTV Service in India

10/31/2007

India’s Aksh Optifibre Ltd., the franchisee of Mahanagar Telephone Nigram Ltd. (MTNL) for IPTV has acquired a new OSS/BSS platform from Elitecore Technologies. According to Aksh Optifibre, a pioneer in fiber and cable technologies in India, the newly acquired platform will go a long way toward optimizing the firm’s services currently serving subscribers in New Delhi and Mumbai. Elitecore’s Premium solution Crestel successfully handles the billing and customer care functions of tier-1 telecom providers like BSNL and MTNL in India.

Aksh Optifiber aims to provide IPTV service to 450,000 subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi, for which it utilizes MTNL's existing broadband network as the content delivery backbone and enable users to get services such as video on demand, broadband, TV channels, time-shifted TV, and video conferencing.

Elitecore Technologies will deploy Crestel Convergent Billing to deliver end-to-end billing and customer-centric management to meet Aksh Optifiber’s complete OSS / BSS, policy management, authentication and customer care requirements. It will offer end to end provisioning in real time mode and customer care and will support content partner settlements and various revenue sharing modules, such as commission based or margin based.

“Crestel’s platform and automated operations can scale simply and efficiently to large numbers of network interfaces that will help Aksh Optifiber reduce operational costs to a great extent,” says Nikhil Jain, President & COO Elitecore Technologies Ltd.

With current research reports estimating the Indian IPTV market to hit 120 million subscribers in 2010, Aksh Optifibre Limited, the second largest company in the Indian Optical Fibre cable industry, seeks to further consolidate its dominant position with the acquisition of the new platform.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's leading telecom provider, also has chosen the Crestel platform. With the new application, BSNL will be able to provide a service selecton portal and AAA software for its Multiplay Broadband project expected to reach 5 million subscribers across all the small and big towns in India.

“ In order to meet growing network demands, BSNL needed a scalable solution for its AAA function which supported all services across all networks; Elite Radius (AAA) can competently manage the busiest of networks, and is scalable to accommodate growing business needs,” says Nikhil Jain COO & President, Elitecore Technologies Ltd.
