EMC Corp. (EMC) has announced two new EMC Proven Solutions that leverage the company’s expertise with VMware to help customers of all sizes virtualize their environments and achieve IT efficiencies. Both solutions combine EMC's platforms and backup and recovery software, and use fully tested and validated reference architectures and best practices to accelerate time to deployment, deliver predictable results, and achieve improved performance, backup and recovery, high availability and manageability, according to EMC. EMC Integrated Infrastructure for VMware is ideally suited for midsize companies and remote offices, enabling them to quickly take advantage of a virtualized infrastructure while minimizing operational and management costs, said EMC. Unlike other vendors' solutions that require long planning cycles, this solution typically reduces configuration time by 60 percent and deployment time by 50 percent, providing customers a faster return on their investment. By standardizing on this infrastructure, customers are able to realize the benefit of reduced maintenance and operational costs while consistently delivering to service level agreements, simplifying support of the remote office, according to the company. Meantime, EMC announced that it has been cited as "the most prevalent storage vendor in their overall environments" according to a survey of 124 global IT decision makers currently using x86 server virtualization technology. The report also revealed that 98 percent of the 124 survey respondents were using VMware ESX in their virtual server environments, and that 78 percent have virtual server technology in use for production application workloads.
